Privacy Policy

Effective August 20, 2026

Young People's Alliance ("YPA," "we," "us," or "our") operates youngpeoplesalliance.org and related subdomains (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit the Site, join, donate, or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use and share that information, and the choices available to you — including about the advertising and analytics tools described below.

Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

When you join YPA, apply to be an Ally, subscribe to our newsletter, or otherwise fill out a form on the Site, we collect the information you submit, which may include your name, email address, phone number, school or employer, ZIP code or address, and, if you become a paying member, payment information (processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe — we do not store your full card number).

Information collected automatically

When you browse the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with the Site, including your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the date and time of your visit. We collect this information through cookies and similar tracking technologies described below.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies (small text files stored on your device) and similar technologies, such as pixels and local storage, for the purposes described below. Some of these are set by us directly, and others are set by third-party advertising and analytics partners.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Site to function — for example, remembering your cookie consent choice, or maintaining state during a form submission or checkout. These cannot be turned off.

Analytics and advertising cookies

With your consent, we use the following third-party tools to understand Site traffic and measure the effectiveness of our advertising and fundraising campaigns:

  • Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms, Inc.) — helps us understand the actions people take on the Site after viewing an ad on Facebook or Instagram, and to measure and improve our advertising. The Meta Pixel sets cookies such as _fbc and _fbp, which we may also share with Meta server-side (via Meta's Conversions API) after a completed membership signup or donation, so that a conversion is still counted if the browser-based pixel is blocked.
  • TikTok Pixel (TikTok Inc. / ByteDance) — used similarly, to measure the effectiveness of advertising run on TikTok and to understand actions taken on the Site after viewing a TikTok ad. This sets the _ttp cookie.
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — helps us understand overall Site traffic and usage patterns.

We only load and initialize these analytics and advertising tools after you accept cookies through the consent banner shown on your first visit to the Site. If you decline, none of these tools are loaded and no advertising or analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page.

You can also control cookies generally through your browser settings, and opt out of interest-based advertising directly with these providers: Meta ad preferences, TikTok privacy controls, and Google Analytics opt-out. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising broadly through the Digital Advertising Alliance.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Process membership signups, donations, and Ally applications
  • Send our newsletter and other communications you've signed up for
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of our advertising and fundraising campaigns
  • Understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights and safety of YPA and our community

How We Share Information

We share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site and process payments, including Stripe (payments) and our organizing/CRM platform, Assembly.
  • Advertising and analytics partners — Meta, TikTok, and Google — as described in "Cookies and Tracking Technologies" above, and only where you have consented to these cookies.
  • Legal and safety purposes — where required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of YPA, our community, or others.

We do not sell your personal information for money.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of certain sharing or uses (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, or similar state privacy laws). To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

You can withdraw or change your cookie consent at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the Site footer, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Many of the students and young people who take part in YPA's advocacy and organizing work are teenagers; where we knowingly collect information from a person we know to be under 18, we limit that collection to what is needed for the specific activity (such as an event or campaign) and do not use it for interest-based advertising. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Data Retention and Security

We retain personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
